We recently asked a local mother from around Macarthur and Wollondilly, NSW, Sydney, what their favourite family outings were. Sara was able to share a stack of great locations for families to check out if they live in the area or are travelling to the area!
Dams:
Many of the Dams around our area have picnic areas and play areas for children. The ones closest to us are Warragamba, Cataract, Cordeaux, Nepean Dam

Lookouts:
Burragorang lookout is also really nice, you can picnic and do a short walk. There is a basic playground and toilets there now.
National Parks:
Thirlmere Lakes National Park – very close to Picton
Dharawal National Park is near Campbelltown and has a walk to the Minerva Pool which is really pretty.
Farm Stay:
Mowbray Park Farm Stay is an authentic farm experience for kids who live in the city. They have hay rides, horse riding, sheep shearing, archery, etc
Action:
For those who are not afraid of speed there is the Picton Kart Track. I think quite young kids can use this as well.
Botanical Gardens:
Mt. Annan Botanic Garden is a wonderful place for kids and big people. You can walk, ride bikes, picnic, and there’s a great kids playground and a cafe..
Animals:
Wirrimbirra is a less known wildlife and plant nursery that has native animals and Dingoes. It is about 10 minutes drive from Picton on the way to some of the dams I mentioned above
