We recently asked Clare from Melbourne; What are some of their favourite family outings around Melbourne? 

“Activities of interest is in part dependent upon ages of kids and right now my eldest (13 years old) is more interested in hanging with friends.”

Catering for different ages would be one of the greatest challenges any parent has when it comes to doing suitable activities to keep them ALL entertained- depending on how many children you have and the ages of them.

-Melbourne Family Outings-

Parks/playgrounds:

Child friendly fenced in Parks, check out Wombat bend in Templestowe and the famous Hayes Paddock in Kew which also caters for kids with disabilities.

Westerfolds Park is nearby for picnic spots and plenty of tracks to ride, scooter etc.

Museums:

Melbourne Museum and Scienceworks are always winners with lots of interactive activities kids can participate in – especially during school holidays. Although a bit of a drive to Scienceworks in Spotswood the kids won’t be disappointed. The lightning show is pretty cool, appealing to older school children and worth the extra cost for admission. There is a cafe there but we tend to pack our own lunch and grab a coffee sitting on the lawn or watching a show in the amphitheater.

Indoor Activity:

Another great activity to do with school aged children is rollerblading at “Skaterz” in Eltham.

Animals:

Collingwood Children’s Farm is a great spot for families, with farm animals to look at and the possibility to feed and hold some of them. There is also a couple of Cafe’s on site if you want to grab a coffee or some food.
